Review Citroen C3 Hatchback (2016 - )

Citroen C3 looks like no other car in the supermini class, with a bold, modern design and a few touches that really unique. It also offers some tantalizing gadgets and practicality decent, but honestly, it's not all that many cops to drive.

The C3 certainly isn’t a class leader among the very impressive array of superminis on offer in today’s market, because – looks aside - it doesn’t really dazzle in any single area. It is, however, a very charming and likeable little car, with bags of style and some fairly tempting equipment. And for many supermini buyers, that’ll be more important than dynamic excellence or practicality.

Pros

  • Kooky, individual looks
  • Some appealing gadgets on offer
  • Generous safety kit

Cons

  • Below par to drive
  • Some rather iffy interior plastics
  • A few ergonomic issues

While previously Citroen C3S generally been blander than a sandwich sawdust, the latest version has been completely head-turning styling that would look more at home on a motor show concept car than an affordable supermini. Following in the footsteps of the C4 Cactus, details of unusual and unusual rounded lines command a lot of attention, while the top spec version also has the 'Air Bump' (they also optional on mid-range cars). This is a rubberised panel contains air pockets that run down each side of the car, giving a futuristic look, as well as a small amount of protection against the effects of runaway shopping cart. The trim level you choose has some implications for the appearance of your car. Touch the entry-level model loses wheels, while Feel cut checks the box and adds body-colored door handles, wheel arch extensions and color contrasting gloss black roof and door mirrors. On top Air Bumps, Flair models add foglight surrounds and dark tinted rear windows.

For many buyers, a stylish exterior C3 will be enough to warrant a purchase, but the design is funky inside will also help strengthen the agreement. Again, fresh and unconventional design, giving you a very chic neighborhood-feeling of sitting at As at Cactus, materials which are not of the highest quality -. Some panels are really cheap-feeling - but there is such a mixture of finishes, textures and colors that you do not see as much as you should. Ergonomically, though, C3 is not nearly so interesting. Touchscreen infotainment system looks good and drastically cut the number of buttons on the dashboard, but also a sad awkward to use, with confusing menus, icons are not clear enough and the screen is not sensitive enough. Steering does not go far enough out of you despite having a height-and reach adjustment, and adjustable seat height will not be quite low, which means you feel awkward driving position.

Practicality

These days, the best superminis are roomy enough to accommodate four lofty adults with relative ease, and that’s something the C3 can do as well as many of its rivals. It’s more comfy than most superminis for five people, too, because the middle seat is wider and softer than those in pretty much any rival, and it’s only the shortage of shoulder room and the bulky transmission tunnel that’ll put a dent in your level of comfort. The boot is a decent size at 300 litres, too, but there’s a large lip to muscle heavy items over, and there’s nothing particularly clever about the way the seats fold down, leaving you with a sloped loadbay.

Ride and handling

Interest Citroen with future generations of the model is to focus wholeheartedly on the more sporty comfort, which in itself, is a bad thing.

Interest Citroen with future generations of the model is to focus wholeheartedly on the more sporty comfort, which in itself, is a bad thing. However, even the new car is based on a platform that can be traced back many years, and there is only so much even the best engineers can do with tweaks and modifications. While the ride was quite comfortable on the smooth roads of southern Spain, it took a bit of a few bumps we found, so we were worried stern test given by the British scruffier streets may be one C3 improper ace. Softness is applied to the suspension in the pursuit of driving comfort also means there are a number of pronounced body lean. What's more, you will see there is almost no consistency between one control: every pedal feels like it's from a different car, gearshift has a laughably long throw and notchy, while the steering feels much and erratic weight.

operating costs

Like any Citroen, the C3 will live and die by its price, and we can’t help feeling Citroen could have been a shade more aggressive on this score.

Like any Citroen, the C3 will live and die by its price, and we can’t help feeling Citroen could have been a shade more aggressive on this score. Yes, it’s a little cheaper than superior offerings like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo, but it is genuinely only a little. Prices are comparable to those of the Seat Ibiza and Renault Clio, but again, these cars are better all-rounders and arguably just as stylish. It’s a little tough to say how the C3 will fare on residual values, too, although Citroens don’t usually deliver a great performance in this area. Generally, the efficiency figures are nothing to jump up and down about. All the diesels duck below the 100g/km mark for CO2 emissions, but the petrol versions everyone will buy fall quite a way short. The best-selling 81bhp engine, for example, delivers official figures of 109g/km and 60.1mpg.

Reliability

Citroen does not always have the best rep in this case, but according to some data that we have seen, this is probably not all fair. brand currently sitting in mid-table position in the ranking of manufacturers of solid Warranty Direct Reliability Index, and C3 score quite well as individual models, too. That said, a warranty of three years / 60,000 miles that are provided are not all that generous compared to what it provides some rivals.

Why buy?

There are plenty of rough edges to C3, but some small cars are as interesting and as fun.
If the style and uniqueness are at the very top of the priority list - and in sectors such as image-conscious market, there will be a large number of people to whom applicable - and you are ready to forgive some shortcomings in other areas, C3 will be on top of your way. Like his brother, the C4 Cactus, there are a lot of rough edges to C3, but some small cars are as interesting and as fun.
