Autocar confidential: Peugeot, BMW, Ford, Audi

This week rumors of the automotive industry has news of Peugeot SUV promises, no more GTS models from BMW M, the demand for the Ford Mustang, and a future rival to the Audi Q2.

More SUV, MPV less, for Peugeot

The new Peugeot 3008 has been designed to be more SUV than MPV, and Maxime Picat boss has hinted that his group PSA sister brand, Citroën, will focus more on the MPV from Peugeot.

"We are a group, with other brands, and in this situation the group's strategy is not to have two brands in the same segment," said Picat. "We have a strong Citroën C4 Picasso is doing a great job as an MPV, so it's very exciting to have another strategy for Peugeot."


No more GTS for BMW M

BMW has no plans to develop another GTS models. M division CEO Frank van Meel revealed to Autocar that the firm was too busy developing affordable M models to focus on the lowestvolume high-end cars.

Ford UK boss Andy Barratt plans to maintain the availability of Mustang 500 units short of potential demand, which is currently running at 2,500 cars per year in the UK. Barratt reasoning is that the lack of light that progress will ensure strong residual values and ownership experience better as a result.


Q2 to get more rivals

Audi expects other manufacturers to release new rival for Q2 SUV and wanted to cement its position as a 'pioneer' in the premium compact crossover segment, according to the UK's product manager Chris Batty.

At its launch towards the end of this year, Q2 will have direct competition in the niche market, but Audi predicts that it will eventually become competitive segments and are interested in getting a head start on rivals.


"We know our German rivals will do something similar with immediately, so that Q2 is a car that is important," said Batty.
