European version of the Suzuki Ignis new city car debut in Paris, reborn as a small SUV, with two and four-wheel drive, and hybrid models are planned.
- Reborn Ignis back to England after an absence of ten years
- Features 1.2-liter petrol from Swift, two and four-wheel drive
- Houses for early spring 2017, priced from around £ 10,000
New Suzuki Ignis Crossover has been revealed at the Paris Motor Show. The Ignis is a familiar name in the UK, but the previous model went on sale here almost a decade ago.
The latest Ignis Think of a cross between a small city car and a small SUV, similar in feel, delivery and price for the Dacia Sandero Stepway, and a bit cheaper than the funky but brilliant Fiat Panda Trekking and Panda Cross 4x4 model.
Unlike the Dacia though, Ignis will offer two or four-wheel drive, the latter dubbed 'ALLGRIP' so it should be able to match the Panda's off-road capability. The European version of the Ignis is slightly larger than its Japanese relations, with different bumper accounting for the increase in size.
It should certainly be turning heads here though, with bright colors, black alloys, roof rails and a few stickers decals interesting - some of which are inspired by retro Suzukis of the 70s.
Predictably machines are on the small side, with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine that produces 89bhp Dualjet and familiar from the Swift and the Baleno hatchback. However, Suzuki will soon introduce a hybrid model Ignis, with lithium-ion battery and electric motor to compliment a gasoline engine and helps produce CO2 figures' well below 100g / km.
Inside, Ignis has a cabin layout is simple, with a sturdy plastic and touch screen for the infotainment systems, that link directly to your smartphone, and incorporates the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. modern safety features such as autonomous emergency braking also make their debut.
boot is honored (by the standards of city car) 267 liters, although this was down to 227 liters in four-wheel drive version, and the rear seats slide forward and back to make the load bay as flexible as possible.
Due to go on sale in the UK early next year, expect the price for the most basic model of Ignis to start around £ 10,000, rising to around £ 13,500 for the top-spec four-wheel drive petrol.
