Here is something that pretty much escaped under the radar: the new Ranger variants. It was Ford Ranger Philippines beefing up its portfolio by introducing new variants of meat between value-oriented XLT and bells-and-whistles Wildtrak Sandwich. FX4 meets delicious.
The FX4 moniker itself is not new to Ford. Established as a high-riding, off-road ready variants, FX4 has graced Ford trucks in the past of Ranger to the F-150.
For the Philippine version though (as with all ASEAN markets), FX4 is a styling package that combines some elements of the XLT and Wildtrak.
Outside, Ranger FX4 instantly recognizable. Swap bits of chrome in this XLT, the grille and side mirrors to black. while the door handles are now body-colored. Other changes to this FX4 body including additional graphics on the hood, tailgate and sides of the body; black roof rails; matte black sports bar; and finally, matte black 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the new FX4 gets vinyl-wrapped console lid and leather on the steering wheel and seats (complete with logo FX4). Large expanse of silver plastic is also missing and in its place is a dark matte. Other than that, it was pretty much the same deal as XLT variants so that you get a voice-command six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, air conditioning, cruise control, and more.
Mechanically, Ranger FX4 is available only with the drivetrain: a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder with 160 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque. Rear-wheel drive only on even though you get a choice between a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
Ranger FX4 is available in four colors: Cool White, Meteor Gray, Aluminum Metallic, and Jet Black. Price is P 1299000 for M / T and P 1359000 for A / T
