Subcompact-crossover segment is growing, and we want to get a straight account of what all the fuss is about. So our long-term test fleet has officially grown one: We have added 2016 FIAT 500X into the mix.
What is that?
The 500X is one of the latest entrants in the new segments that swept the world of cars: a subcompact crossover. You've heard of the midsize crossover like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander and compact crossovers like the Ford Escape and Honda CR-V, but the car is now taking things one small step. The 500X directly compete with Chevrolet Trax, Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V, all of which were released in the last few years.
The 500X itself, it is a 5-door small offers two engine choices: the 180-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and a 160-hp 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder (the latter available in Pop basic-level model). Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional. trim levels range from Pop (which starts at $ 21,000 with shipping) all the way up to the lounge, which starts at $ 29,200, although abundant selection can increase the numbers substantially.
We've had the opportunity to examine 500X for quick review, and we loved it so much that we named one of our Must Drive Test Vehicle 10 to 2016.
Our car test
Our test car was a top-of-the-line 2016 FIAT 500X Trekking Plus - we want to get as many features as possible to test them all out. standard equipment including Chrysler Uconnect infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touch screen, with a passive entry control Keyless Enter-N-Go start, park assist, steering-wheel audio, heated front seats and heated steering wheel.
Our test car was also equipped with the optional Trekking 2 Collection Plus package, which offers many advanced safety features, including wiper with rain sensor, automatic high beams, panoramic sunroof, forward-collision warning with automatic braking and lane- departure warning. The total cost was expensive $ 32,930 with interest; it is not a small number for a vehicle of this size, but it's reasonable when you consider how many high-end features and gadgets we would enjoy.
So how do we love it? Check back for updates over the next few months to see what we think of 500X as we put it through the road trip, drive the city, visit the suburbs, jams and much more.
