Test drive, Mercedes C 250d review 2016

Version of the Mercedes-Benz C-class described here may not look very different from the popular 220D C, but C 250D badge on the boot that really says quite a lot about it. And it is that this is a more powerful diesel version of the C-class. Yes, it's powered by the same engine 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel as the 220D, but thanks to the use of twin turbos here, the power and torque figures are 204 hp strong and 500 Nm, respectively. 220D, for reference, makes 170hp and 400Nm. 250D is also the first in a range of C-class to use the latest Merc 9G-Tronic nine-speed gearbox.

In terms of equipment, C 250D saw an influx of adaptive lighting for LED headlamps, additional ambient lighting for the cabin and automatic park assist, over and above all that C Avantgarde 220D is equipped with. In this case, C 250D is equipped with luxury essentials such as LED lights, powered seats, panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, satellite navigation and reversing camera. Also on the list is selected driving modes that alter the engine, gearbox and steering characteristics. Like all new Mercs, C MB 250D also comes with applications that enable you to browse the Internet and tune into Internet radio through central screen; just hope the system is easier to feed orders into. Also, we still have fans as for the tablet screen infotainment system that seems to be stuck on the center console.

This apart, the C-class cabin still wows for luxuries on offer. Right from the grain of the wood to the power window switch, everything looks and feels expensive. C-class is really far ahead of rivals in front this time. It's safe to assume people are opting for C 250D needed for the task of driving often, and many of these will really appreciate the comfort of the front seats. Nice and supportive seats, and you can extend the seat cushion on the base as well. On the other hand, the rear seat squab feels a touch short and headroom in the back is not exceptional either. There are, however, plenty of legroom offered.

if u think C 220D less powerful, you will not be disappointed with C 250D. You can immediately tell the machine is punchier here with noticeably more power everywhere in the rev range. responsive engine at low revs, with strong mid-range and cost at 4,600rpm be quite easy for you to keep the throttle pinned to the floor. What undoubtedly helped performance is nine-speed automatic gearbox. The ratio of short and fast shift allows for rapid acceleration from any speed. Furthermore, the gearbox also very responsive to tug at the oars and even lets you downshift aggressively. However, the gearbox will not let you hold the teeth even in the sportiest (namely Sport +) of the drive mode. Fans may also regretting the lack of launch control, something comes with the BMW 320d.

But C250D is not just about great speed and power. It is also a very relaxing car to drive, said at a regular city traffic and on cruise ships long highway. Engine and gearbox are well adapted to the driving style and engine noise well contained for the most part. In town, the light steering makes C 250D easy to live with. But as C-class models more mainstream, you will note a little company traveling at low speed and there are also quite a lot of vertical movement when driving fast. It is not comfortable in the least but not a good benchmark in the segment. Head to your favorite set of twisties and you'll love how precise steering C 250D feels. Handling overall good but C does not feel sharp or willing to change direction as the BMW 320d. We suspect handling will be better off with one set grippier tires. Our test car Bridgestone Turanzas issued a scream at the slightest spirited driving.
