Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo is not a replacement for the now defunct and much-loved Fabia VRS, go-fast version of the Czech supermini. That's probably what the car looks like, with painted alloy wheels, tinted windows and badge Monte Carlo Rally-imitation, and probably what inspired the name of motorsport take you expected, but it's not what you get here; not too.
It is, in fact, the mid-range new trim level for the Fabia supermini range. Based on the SE trim, painted it adds 16in alloy wheels, sports front seats, a few pedal-looking excited and red-stitched steering wheel sport. tinted windows and some gloss black body trim help lift the car's exterior styling above the levels a bit dowdy than the standard car, and the efforts of aesthetics, at least in isolation, it deserves recognition.
Three petrol and two diesel engines offered in the car, allowing the owner to balance the sporting spirit towards operating costs in accordance with their own special wishes,. But it was the most powerful of them only give 108bhp car is a good indication of how serious this performance Fabia ambition should be taken.
For those who wish to maximize sportiness, 17in wheels and a sport suspension are both available as an option. But our test car - mid-range 89bhp 1.2-liter TSI - do not have.
How does it feel?
An interior makeover life echoes Skoda efforts have been issued in jazzing up the exterior of the Fabia and makes for a welcome injection of color in the otherwise monotonous cabin. the standard-fit fabric upholstery Skoda is a mixture of red, white and gray - with the actual lines of go-fast - and one of them color repeated on the center console unapologetically bright red. The front seats themselves are quite profound supported; they are rather small, but the bolster pillow produce only enough to accommodate a bigger butt.
This is the kind of interior that augers well, suggesting you'll find the same experience driving change; but getting behind the wheel and the Fabia Monte Carlo quickly made it clear that it is more about show than go.
Less than two gasoline engine turbo 1.2-liter Skoda quite willing and interesting with a lot of guts at low revs, making Fabia feel light and crisp around the city. But out of breath when you work for high engine speeds - and this is a five-speed manual gearbox, with ratios spaced-out, obligating you to do to the spirit of the car along with any vigor. Change gear quite easily, through the action of the shift light but well defined, although a long throw requires some closeness and fun out of the equation.
ride and handling, by and large, such as rounded and mature as any other Fabia range - but it was far from what the fans warm hatchback might have expected it to be. But they painted wheel steering adds a bit more bite, and the level of balance spring resilience against the car body control is good enough.
Our intention is good enough for ordinary supermini, though, that, under a visual makeover, is what this car. Gentle-acting shock absorbers that are not widely used in keeping the body bound when the road turned bumpy, and the steering wheel feels light and offer little encouragement tactile or guarantee on the speed.
Should I buy one?
Fabia Monte Carlo will not be on our short list of warm-up of small cars. For those who want to add kerbside appeal of sports options but at the showroom price and the operating cost of run-of-the-mill supermini, however, it certainly has its place.
Skoda has done a good job of lifting the car's exterior styling and add color and life to the cabin, but, without the optional sport suspension and more powerful than a few machines available, at least, the car does not have the driving experience to really set it apart for drivers interested.
bet we will also be that even the sportiest version of the 108bhp TSI has been engineered to add spice to the range of the Fabia by way of decorative and a little shallow, and not radically change the dynamic character mature of the Fabia by very much - and that may very well be exactly how the car the customer base wants it ,
