The new nine XKSS Jaguar D-type to be built in 2017

Jaguar has announced that they will build nine units XKR S D-Type model to replace those lost in the 1957 Browns Factory fire.

Nearly 60 years later, a total of nine classes will be hand-built by Jaguar at the 'Experimental new Shop in Warwick, and will be built with the exact same specifications as the original model was produced in 1957.


Set for a price of more than £ 1 million, very limited-run unit will not be widely available for sale as they are being built specifically for a select group of collectors and customers.

Classic Jaguar Land Rover boss Tim Hannigan said: "The XKRS occupies a unique place in the history of the Jaguar and the car coveted by collectors around the world for the exclusivity and clear design.

"The team is very skilled Jaguar engineers and technicians will draw on decades of knowledge to ensure that each of the nine cars really authentic and made with the highest quality. Continuation we XKSS reaffirm our commitment to maintain the spirit and enthusiasm for the past famous Jaguar with regular offers car, service, parts and experience. "

Jaguar says that the knowledge gained from producing E-Type Lightweight continuation series will be applied in creating new models.

The XKSS was the road-going version of the original D-Type racer, which was first launched in 1954. Sir Williams Lyon took the decision in 1957 to transform the D-Type racer into a road-going version to try and recoup some investment into the 25 chassis’ built that remained unsold.


Minor modifications included the addition of a higher windscreen and an extra passenger door. The 3.4-litre engine and four-speed gearbox remained unchanged.

First deliveries of the new continuation Jaguar XKSS model will commence early next year.
