The new 5 Series isn't even available yet, but BMW has already unveiled a range of M Performance extras for it
The new BMW 5 Series already has a range of dedicated M Performance parts. The add-ons bring aesthetic, mechanical and performance upgrades to the new model.
The parts include a Power and Sound Kit, which increases the performance of models equipped with the six-cylinder petrol engine. Increases of 33bhp and 37lb ft take this engine to 350bhp and 369lb ft.
Despite the performance boost, this kit does not affect the emissions or fuel economy of cars fitted with it, according to BMW. Those who want to leave the performance of their car untouched but tweak the sound can opt for the kit's M Performance stainless steel silencer individually, but only on the 530i, 540i and their xDrive variants, as well as diesel models.
The pipes are available in a stainless steel or carbonfibre finish, depending on the engine.
Diesel 5 Series variants are also offered performance upgrades. Boosts of 26bhp and 22lb ft take them up to 284bhp and 479lb ft.
Other items in the M Performance range can be applied to all versions of the 5 Series. They include an exclusive set of 20in alloy wheels finished in silver and black – or just grey - with a twin-spoke design and M Performance brakes with red callipers. There is also an aerodynamic exterior kit for M Sport cars.
Other aesthetic upgrades, such carbonfibre door mirror caps, a black-finished grille and M Performance accent strips, also feature. On the inside, an M Performance Alcantara steering wheel can be fitted.
BMW is yet to release further details about the range of upgrades, including availability, pricing and release dates, although the M Performance steering wheel will be available in summer 2017, suggesting that the rest of the range will be available after this.
