Super GT is Japan's main touring car competition featuring heavily modified production cars (for they are designed to be available commercially). With an acronym that stands for "Grand Touring", this high-performance automobile capable of both high speed and driving distance. The cars lined up to compete in the GT500 is an upscale car of the Japanese "Big Three": Nissan, Toyota, and Honda while producers in the country and abroad go up against each other in the lower GT300 class.
Drawing more than 400,000 spectators a year, Super GT has eight rounds and is mainly held at the circuit in Japan: Okayama International Circuit, Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka, Sportsland Sugo in Miyagi, Suzuki Circuit in Mie, and Twin Ring Motegi in Tochigi. However, it wants to attract more international audience, one round held outside Japan and since 2014, Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand plays host. This year, host Round 7.
With the exception of the hot and humid temperatures in Buriram, the committee successfully replicated the sights and sounds of a full-on Super GT race. The weekend was filled with fast cars, racing interesting, and of course, tons of race queen.
