Jaguar has launched I-Pace, the model gives first glimpse of the new electric cars that will be sold in 2018.

Although this car, which was unveiled at the LA Auto Show, officially a concept, Jaguar is ready to admit that it was a preview of the five-seat, four-wheel drive SUV that will be on the road in less than two years. That would make it the first electric vehicle companies, one of which Jaguar says will be capable of 0-60mph time of around four seconds, and has a range of about 220 miles.

The car has a very distinctive style, which is designed to be very aerodynamically; and, thanks to the coupe-like profile and sharply sloping windscreen, it has a real sense of sporty, pictures that ends with big wheels, low hood and LED lights.

Inside, the car has a blend of traditional materials technology and the very latest, with lots of wood, metal and leather in the event, as well as a touch screen to control the infotainment systems and digital dashboards. The cabin is flooded with light thanks to a panoramic sunroof, and a minimalist design is intended to increase the sense of space inside.

At a length of just under 4.7 meters, the car is slightly shorter than the company's first SUV, F-Pace. However, Jaguar said that I-Pace had a lot of space inside the vehicle as much larger, and the 530-liter boot.

I-Pace driven by electric motors on the front axle and the rear; and, with a combined output of nearly 400bhp, they allow the car to hit 60mph in around 4.0 seconds, the company said. It also means that the car has four-wheel drive, in addition to the latest safety features, such as All Surface Progress Control and Adaptive Response Surface.

Beyond that, the company said that the I-Pace will appeal to drivers that sharp, using a suspension of a similar set-up to that in F-Pace.

The battery gives the car a range of more than 200 miles, Jaguar said, and they can be charged up to 80% within 90 minutes; and, fully charged in just two hours using a common charger DC 50kW.

As yet, no further details about the production version of the I-Pace, but Jaguar has confirmed that we will see the car before the end of 2017; and, customers will be able to buy it in 2018.
