While the 2017 GT-R is gaining the lion’s share of attention over at the Nissan pavilion, Nissan Philippines, Inc. also snuck in a mid-cycle re-fresh of their Altima executive sedan at the Philippine International Motor Show or PIMS.
The 2017 Altima gains the new Nissan corporate face and as such features the “Energetic Flow” exterior design theme. The front-end offers the most striking difference since all the panels and piece forward of the A-pillar are new. Two key elements—the V-Motion and boomerang-shaped headlights (now with LEDs) are retained, but have been dramatically tweaked along with the wide, deeply sculpted bumper, more prominent grille, and integrated fog lights. The rear has also been changed with a new trunk lid, re-shaped bumper, and lower, wider boomerang-shaped combination lights.
Inside, the new Altima blends style and substance with comfort and luxury. The beige interior is now gone and replacing it is an all-black affair. The new smart cockpit designed under the “Gliding Wing” concept offers easier multitasking. It has steering wheel controls that enable the driver to switch modes from audio to drive computer to phone connectivity to even cruise control. More premium appointments such as leather powered seats, a 9-speaker Bose sound system, push-button start/stop, and sunroof up the luxury factor.
For 2017, Nissan Philippines drops the 3.5-liter V6 in favor of a single engine offering: the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Mated to a CVT transmission, it offers 180 horsepower and 243 Nm of torque. And to keep it pointed in the right direction, the Altima comes with Active Understeer control (torque vectoring) along with independent suspension front and rear.
Apart from Active Understeer Control, the Altima has a full complement of airbags, speed-sensing door locks, anti-lock brakes, and of course, vehicle dynamics control or VDC.
Priced at P 1,745,000, the 2017 Nissan Altima is now available in three colors: Black Obsidian, Pearl White, and Cayenne Red at all Nissan dealerships nationwide.
