The basis of the new A-Class, which will continue pitched as a rival to the likes of the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series, is a revised platform that goes under the name MFA2. Modular structure, engineered in collaboration with Renault, is very attractive in MFA1 existing platform, but it has a number of revisions, including greater use of aluminum in the floorpan, the move is claimed to reduce weight while increasing stiffness.
As evidenced in the early prototype was revealed here, a variant of MFA2 platform used by the new A-Class has a wider track and a longer wheelbase than the structure MFA1. An increase in the subtle dimension has been used to increase the amount of space dedicated to the back of the interior, including the boot, following criticism of the strict boundaries and lack of luggage carrying capacity of today's A-Class.

For the first time, A3 and 1 Series rivals will also offer a gas-electric plug-in hybrid option. Its lithium ion battery, which is provided by Mercedes-Benz Accumotive daughter company, is claimed to provide a new hatchback with a range of electricity up to 31 miles.
The details of the A-Class plug-in hybrid remain scarce. However, engineers from the German car maker to admit they have been working on two different set-ups: one puts the electric motor between the engine transversely mounted petrol and gearbox and give a boost to the front wheels, and an alternative to the electric motor to form an integral part of the rear axle and giving a boost to the rear wheels.
The new machine or renewed will be offered with either a standard six-speed manual or an optional nine-speed double-clutch gearbox - the second set to replace the seven existing speed, giving what one person in the Mercedes-Benz described to Autocar as a basis for "further improvement in the economy and the subsequent decline in CO2 emissions ".

It has been developed to handle loads of up to 500Nm torque.
In addition to the model front-wheel drive is standard, there are plans to expand the number of four-wheel drive models 4Matic in the fourth generation A-Class line-up in what is officially marketing indicated there would be a new impetus to provide greater competition for A3 quattro and 1 sDrive series models.
