The new 5 Series flagship is set to offer a choice between rear-wheel drive and optional four-wheel drive for the first time. It is tentatively due to be unveiled at the 2017 Geneva motor show, with a developed version of the V8 petrol engine twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter BMW under the bonnet.
Like the current car, it will use an automatic transmission dual-clutch seven-speed, but the drivetrain is expected to increase peak output of 552bhp and 501lb ft of torque current model.
Along with the rest of the range 5 Series, the next M5 will feature design flourishes that takes influence from Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé concept car 2013. Photographed development confirmed it will get heavier raked rear window and the boot sloping deck, giving a slimmer profile and more beautiful the back of the current model.
Inside, many of the design of the car dashboard will resemble the new 7 Series, and will also get a 48-volt electrical architecture to enable sophisticated system of autonomous driving. A self-steering mode will operate up to a predetermined speed, and advanced anti-collision systems and fully autonomous braking will also be available.
In-car technology will come from the fifth generation of BMW's iDrive system, as used by the new 7 Series. Touchpad and touch screen supports a new function, which allows passengers to operate the features in a style similar to that of smartphones, with the familiar dash, dot and swipe commands,
or alternatively via a rotary dial on the center console mounted updated spacious car.
Insiders suggest the tech-heavy 2017 M5's price may increase slightly in the current model, so the numbers starting from around £ 75,000 seems.
When arriving generation M5 will compete with Mercedes-AMG E63, as well as for a 2017 debut. the car will use a 4.0-liter V8 engine from AMG GT sports car, but with a peak power increase to as much as 600bhp.
