Ford Explorer SUV ride the current boom, with sales approaching 250,000 in 2015, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year. But Ford apparently will not stop until there is Explorer in any way. For the revised 2016 models, Ford has added a new, top-tier Platinum trim levels and muscle provides 365-hp EcoBoost V-6 that were previously exclusive to Sport. Now make Sports blackout grille, and other visuals are available on low-spec XLT models, the new Sport Appearance Package.
giving people who work XLR poor children Sporty look, with the grille and other black exterior trim, black roof rack, and the 20-inch dark gray. The interior gets a little visual spice, too, boasting a gray chair contrast stitching, leather bolsters, and inserts the last microsuede on the door panels, as well.
spices that do not extend to the mechanical, however. XLT make do with a standard, 290-hp naturally aspirated V-6 or, optionally, more-economical, 280-hp 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four. If you want EcoBoost 3.5-liter or a firmer suspension, you should spring for the original Sport. Ford has not released pricing for the package-which arrives this fall with the 2017 models but expect it to be much closer to the $ 34,295 base price than the XLT Sport nearly $ 10K-dearer, which starts at $ 44,195.
