1. Focus Ford RS
Why buy?
A new Ford RS is great news. Previous models have proved very popular with fans that they used the values have skyrocketed far beyond their price when new opportunities are countless.
This time we are treated with 345bhp Focus stonking of the Mustang-derived 2.3-liter turbocharged engine. All the power that is fed through the all-wheel drive is an intelligent system that is equipped with a number of drive modes, including a track-only 'mode float' that allows for tail-out antics if you feel like shredding some Michelins.
We were blown away by the speed and handling of the car, both on the road and on the racetrack, and with a list price of £ 10k cheaper than some competitors, it starts to look like a performance bargain of the century.
Spec secret: the residual value will be stronger if you choose the Luxury Pack, Recaro racing seats and lightweight forged alloy wheels.

MX5 is cheap, honest, lightweight two-seater convertible roadster is built around a concept Mazda UK classic styling but with a modern twist.
We love the rear-wheel drive chassis with fantastic steering feel and driver feedback, find it encouraging more valuable than many more expensive sports cars, but operational costs are much lower.
Naturally, the cabin and the trunk is not the last word in practicality, but there comes with trim levels and a choice of two engines together with various chassis upgrades to further enhance the drive.

3. Ford Fiesta ST
Why buy a mini car?
Other Ford in the same article? Yes. The reality is, the company is on the car's performance hot-streak right now, but with the exception of the GT hypercar, all major models at a good value as well as a strong performance.
That is the title here. It is much cheaper, and arguably better, than all of the nearest competitor (Peugeot 208 GTI, Renaultsport Clio and VW Polo GTI) that are difficult to ignore in a list like this.
Secret spec: Increase Mountune is a valuable addition if you are interested in fast driving. It costs just £ 599 and adds another 15bhp, 30nm of torque and even more excitement. Read more about this upgrade here.

4. Audi S1
Why would you buy?
This is not the cheapest car in this article, but nothing else of the same size that offer better performance. With the system quattro all-wheel drive coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox and a 228bhp engine borrowed from the Golf GTI, this is one serious machine capable.
On the drive beginning we thought it was like a small rally car, with plenty of grip and stable handling along with an interesting soundtrack and blistering performance.
Choose from three body styles or five doors and of course, became Audi, a number of optional extras to push the price is right if you want.
Spek secret: Sat-nav seat and leather quality selection of sports to choose from and will help the resale value.

5. Peugeot 308 G TI 270
Why would you buy?
308 GTI 270 is a true hot hatch. Its performance is competitive with rivals in a straight line, but tweaks to the chassis is what makes this car something special. While the GTI 250 is a softer version for everyday comfort, 270 got a Torsen limited-slip differential along with Alcon brakes to stop the ultimate power and lightweight 19-inch alloys.
We found the front sports seat to be very good, and the boot 308 is one of the largest in its class as well. It was not even as bad as the fuel or the car tax.
Spek secret: Select only typical 270 Coupe Franche two-tone paint-job for the best residual value.
